Our History and Legacy

A Legacy Rooted in Tradition

Domaine Ben Ismail has been a cornerstone of Tunisia’s olive oil production for generations. With centuries-old traditions, we have perfected the art of producing high-quality olive oil, while embracing
modern sustainable practices.

The Ben Ismail Family: A father and his two sons, tending to 50 hectares of rolling hills where 5,000 olive trees thrive. These “Carthaginian” olives are a testament to a deep connection to the land, a tradition that dates back to the Phoenician and Roman eras. Since the 14th century, the Ben Ismail family has proudly carried on this olive oil-producing heritage.

Perched 700 meters above sea level, the village of Thuccabor in northern Tunisia continues a thousand-year-old tradition of olive cultivation. Breathtaking landscapes serve as the backdrop for the estate, where Roman archaeological ruins, including remnants of a triumphal arch, add to its charm.

Driven by a passion for success in olive oil tourism, the Ben Ismail family has embraced biodynamic farming practices to ensure harmony between the olive trees and the soil. They live on fertile, history-rich land, welcoming guests from around the world to share in the art of tasting exceptional olive oil.

Where Nature and Innovation Meet

At Domaine Ben Ismail, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment to preserving the land and supporting local biodiversity ensures that our olives and the environment thrive for generations to come.

Moreover, olive oil stands out for its health-promoting attributes, particularly its positive impact on heart health and anti-inflammatory qualities. Our Ultra Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), specifically the Chetoui variety, distinguishes itself by its exceptionally high phenolic content, making it a truly beneficial health supplement. This elevated phenolic concentration is achieved through Verde Azzura's meticulous process of early harvesting, selecting the youngest and greenest olives, albeit in limited quantities.

The Chetoui variety of our Extra Virgin Olive Oil stands out due to its exceptionally high phenolic content, rendering it a distinctive and healthful product. The measure used to represent the phenolic content of olive oil is milligrams of hydroxytyrosol equivalents per kilogram of oil (mg/kg). This unit is commonly used to quantify the total phenolic compounds present in olive oil, as hydroxytyrosol is a major phenolic compound found in olives. A higher phenolic content is generally associated with greater health benefits, including antioxidant properties and potential cardiovascular benefits.
